Some Random Tuesday Afternoon Thoughts:
I am excited about helping Sue Busler lead Fast Track Disciple Bible Study this fall. Beginning September 20, we will meet each Tuesday night this fall at 7:00 pm. The fall sessions will be based in the Old Testament of the Bible and the spring sessions will be focused on the New Testament. While we have had a good response so far, there is still room for you! If you have any questions, please contact me or David Roderick at email@example.com.
Other Journey Groups for this fall are being formed. I was pleased to hear that quite a few people have already signed up and/or expressed interest in signing up for a group. Again, there’s room for you!
Thank you for your contributions to the ministry of the Troy United Methodist Church. Each gift is appreciated. In some issues of the newsletter we print our Ministry Fund giving goals and actual giving compared to the goal. Please know that detailed financial reports are available upon request. If you would like a copy of any of those reports, please contact Sharie (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thanks to Jim and Margaret Merrell for donating two Cracker Barrel rockers to the church in memory of her mother, Elsie Haley.
A new bishop has been assigned to the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference! Bishop Frank Beard will begin his duties on September 1, 2016. Our previous episcopal leader, Bishop Jonathan Keaton, is retiring. An installation service for our new bishop will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Springfield at 3:00 pm on September 11, 2016.
It was really great having our two ministry interns with us for a few weeks this summer. I was impressed with the wrap-up they wrote in the last issue of the REACH. Hopefully, we can continue having summer interns. Thanks for your support of them.
It’s been a fun summer for Iris and me. While we did not take any trips this summer, I have had some time off when our son, Jedd was home (celebrating his 40th birthday later this month!); and Toby was also home. All 13 of us were together for a few days last week. One thing we did was a family bowling outing. I just want everyone to know that I had the highest score on one game and was tied with one of the boys as the highest score on the second one! Glad I hadn’t bowled for a long time–hate to beat everyone too badly.
In addition to attending Annual Conference and Jurisdictional Conference, we also spent a few days at camp in Eldorado and a couple of days at the Illinois State Fair. Summer went by quickly.
Praying for a great school year for all of the students connected to our church. Also praying for our teachers, administrators, staff, and parents. Our own preschool, 1st Step Learning Center, started their new year yesterday.
Looking forward to our ministry together this fall. Let’s pray for one another.
