What is church membership?
It’s the commitment to support this particular church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service and your witness. Membership is more about serving and taking responsibility to move the mission of Troy UMC forward in this little corner of the world.
What are the steps?
The official way to get connected to Troy UMC is to attend the On Ramp Gathering, which is a lunch and orientation to the church mission and ministry. The Membership Class is the follow up the On Ramp Gathering and deals more with the commitments of membership in the church. You can attend these in order or out of order, whichever works best for you. Each of these gatherings typically happen after worship on Sundays, include lunch and a conversation with pastors, staff and other new folks about Troy United Methodist Church. Childcare is available and lunch is complimentary. Email email@example.com to find out more.
Though there is no obligation to join after attending the Membership Class, an invitation to join will be extended. The official joining process takes place during the worship service you typically attend. You will be invited to the front, the pastor will ask you questions (discussed during the Membership Class) and when you answer yes, you are a member. If you haven’t been baptized, you may do that during membership vows. If you are transferring your membership from another church, the office will take care of all the details.
As a member of the church, you join the team with the task of making disciples and inviting people on a journey with Jesus in this region. We want you to be involved in the ministry of serving and a ministry of growing. On the growth side, we invite everyone to choose from a Sunday morning Journey Group or other weekly Bible Studies and groups. On the serving side, there are endless possibilities to serve in and through Troy UMC. The single best way to begin the process is to jump in, ask questions, and work hard until you get plugged in. Emails, phone messages and connection to staff and leaders on Sundays and Wednesday are some of the most organic and best ways to find out needs and get plugged in. Because the church is growing, we are counting on each person to take it upon themselves to seek out a way they can use their gifts in ministry! You are needed to make Troy UMC extraordinary!
As a member of Troy United Methodist Church, we encourage you to be in worship every week you are in town. Currently, worship is held on Sundays at 8:00, 9:00, 10:15 and 10:45 am. You are also invited to support the church with tithes and offerings which is our act of worship as those who call Troy UMC home. [SET UP GIVING ONLINE] Let’s strive together to be the salt and light in the community! What will God do in our midst as we live out this mission together? Let’s pray for each other!
