I am a devotee of daily devotionals and nab the new “Upper Room” when I spot it here at church. Every morning as I sip my coffee I read from that little book. It comes up in conversations, so I know that others read it too. One of our church members who deals with big health issues expressed fear and loneliness during a phone visit. I said I’d been strengthened by what I read in the “Upper Room” that morning. She hadn’t yet read that daily message, and I hope she was comforted when she read the day’s theme, “Whatever the day may bring, I am in God’s loving care.”

Another church member, Jenn Carter, shares this great information, “One of my favorite daily devotions is put out by Proverbs 31 Ministry in a iPhone app called First 5. It was introduced to me by Julie Ford, one of Troy UMC ladies Bible study leaders. It can also be accessed at The experience is a little different than the app, but the Bible reading plans are great and meant to get you in the habit of spending the first five minutes of your day in God’s word. These devotions always leave me feeling uplifted. If you like to listen to podcasts, “Our Daily Bread” is great. It’s about 4 minutes long and includes a daily Bible reading.”
