December Mission Update

December Mission Focus

In December it has been a tradition where the United Methodist Women have sponsored ‘Angel Trees’ to support collecting items for Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House in East St. Louis. This year the UMW and the mission team decided to have a joint collection that supports both Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House and Liberty Village.

The collections were extremely successful! In fact, all of the ornaments from the trees were taken before the 10:45 service on the first Sunday they were available. The collection for Liberty Village included primarily gifts of games and craft supplies for use by the residents in the activity centers. The collection for Lessie Bates Davis included toys, clothes and other Christmas gifts for the children.

The gifts for Liberty Village were delivered on December 16th by a group of 19 carolers from the church. We wandered through each of the halls singing carols and chatting with the residents. Some of the children even brought some hand-made crafts and presented them. It sure made a lot of people smile.

The gifts for Lessie Bates Davis were delivered the following day by Lisa Graves,  a member of our church who works there.

Thanks to all of you who supported these missions!

TWIGS Advent Calendars

In addition to the Angel Tree collections, special Advent calendars were made available that assisted in collecting food items for the TWIGS food program. In usual fashion, the members of Troy UMC have been extremely generous. They have already had to come a collect some of the donations in order to make room for more!
