Work Day at Midwest Mission Distribution Center

Event details

On Saturday, May 4th we will be participating in a ‘community day of missions’ at Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC). Anybody ages 5 or older is welcome to join in. This is a fantastic opportunity to discover what MMDC does and to participate in a number of their mission activities. MMDC was the sponsor for our food packaging event last November, providing the supplies to make the meals and then working to distribute them. Food packaging will be one of the available activities in addition to packing UMCOR cleaning kits (formerly flood buckets), tornado tubs, personal dignity kits and school book bags. (Note that the cleaning kits and tornado tubs are distributed primarily throughout the Midwest to deal with the floods and tornados that are now occurring) You can also visit and help in the bicycle repair shop, sewing machine repair shop and school desk workshop.

Over the years the United Methodist Women and the New Student Life Ministry (middle and high school work groups) have participated in annual work days at MMDC. In addition, Sew Much Joy makes thousand of items that are distributed throughout the world. Also, there are several individuals who contribute time there. We are having this trip so more people can get to know what this organization does.

We will leave church at 7:30AM and return about 4:00PM. Bring a sack lunch and make sure you are wearing closed-toe shoes (no sandals). The trip takes approximately one hour, so we will be working from about 8:30 to 3:00.

To sign up contact the church office or David Roderick (david@troyumc.org) and provide the following information:

  • Name(s)
  • Email Address
  • Phone Number
  • If you want to ride (church bus or with somebody else who is driving), or if you are driving. If you are driving, let us know how many additional riders you can take.

We are hoping for a big turnout! We hope you can join us!
