Did you know that Fred Rogers (of “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” fame) was an ordained Presbyterian minister? I have a book of his quotes and chose one as an opening prayer Sunday: “There’s something unique about being a member of a family that really needs you in order to function well. One of the deepest longings a person can have is to feel needed and essential.” Our church family needs you in order to function well, too! I used another Fred Rogers quote for a closing prayer: “All of us, at some time or another, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connect us as neighbors- in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.” Those words help me to remember that I am part of our TUMC family, and together we all are part of God’s family. As Pastor Dennis said on Sunday, we need give things our ALL, and as Pastor Dave said, we change when we help others.
