Christianity and World Religions: Wrestling with Questions People Ask by Adam Hamilton

Leaders: Dawn Lambert, dawn.burnett@gmail.com This small-group study explores four major world religions- Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism – and compares the beliefs of each with those of Christianity. This six-week study deals openly and honestly with questions people ask about other religions, including why we should believe the claims of Christianity over those of other faiths. The study will also include videos of the author interviewing a religious leader from each tradition. The Reverend Hamilton treats the world religions with great respect, recognizing the unique contributions of each. In examining these major world religions and the beliefs of their followers, he urges us as Christians to build bridges with others so that we might grow in our faith, seek peace in our world, love our neighbor, and find positive ways to share the gospel.

Leaders: Mark Nelson, mjnelson643@gmail.com and Linda Monks, linda2347@aol.com This four-week study is built around the Academy Award winning biography of World War I hero, Alvin York, and the film, Sergeant York.  Alvin York, a Medal of Honor recipient, was a conscientious objector who, through his faith, made the decision to fight. The study will examine the position on pacifism in the Old and New Testaments.  Some of the questions to be discussed will include: What does pacifism actually mean?  Is war murder or justifiable homicide?  What does it mean to turn the other cheek?   How does Jesus feel about good vs. evil?

Making Space by Jeff Vanderstelt

Leader: Mary Kennett, marykennett03@gmail.com NEW GROUP!  Do you know what’s most important in life? Do you feel too busy to make time for those things? This study gleans wisdom from the Book of Proverbs and from the example of Jesus to show you how to center your life on God’s priorities. You will examine the things that matter most to God and to you as a follower of Christ. Then you will learn to apply godly wisdom that will help you incorporate these activities into your busy life. In some cases, you will find that you are doing the wrong things. Or you might find that you are doing the right things for the wrong reason or in the wrong way, so they are not life-giving or fulfilling. Each week’s session will function as a stand-alone message, providing great opportunities to invite friends.
