Part of the difficulty in participating in mission activities is deciding where to start – there are so many worthwhile causes. So if you aren’t currently a ‘missionary’ then start simple and expand your view from there. Pay attention to the mission focus each month.
Join A Mission-Oriented Group at Church
There are several groups at church that support various missions. These include:
- United Methodist Women – UMW actively supports numerous missions throughout the conference.
- Chicks With Sticks – Makes crocheted, knitted and quilted items.
- Sew Much Joy – Manufactures numerous sew items from reclaimed fabric for distribution to those in need.
- New Life Student Ministry – they take several trips and outings a year that serve others and often need adults to assist.
Support A Local Pantry
Each week pick up an item or two at grocery store and drop it off at your local food pantry – or drop it off at the church in one of the baskets where it will be picked up and taken to the Troy food pantry. Please check the Mission Resources page for links to the food pantries to determine their current needs as these frequently change!
Support the Mission Activities of Troy UMC
Several groups within the church sponsor mission activities and request additional help (the junior and senior high youth groups and the United Methodist Women are a couple of significant examples.) As they become known to us we will post information on the Mission Needs and Opportunities page. Check back there frequently for opportunities to help.
There a thousands of ways to get involved. The Mission Resources page has links to organizations that are supported corporately by Troy UMC and by individuals within the church. We hope to update the resources to include contacts within Troy UMC that can help you get involved, but in the mean time you can contact David Roderick (email@example.com) or any members of the missions team and they will try to assist.
