The Cambridge English dictionary defines serendipity as “The fact of finding interesting or valuable things by chance.” Learning interesting and valuable things is something I love about being Director of Lay Ministry at our church, but I’m not finding them by chance. God sends information in a lot of ways- I learn a lot when I open my emails, talk to my co-workers, and read what people print out
I get fascinating daily emails from Thom Rainer’s website such as this quote: “We must start doing. Most of us like the idea of evangelism more than we like doing evangelism. Try a simple prayer and ask God to give you gospel opportunities. You may be surprised how He will use you.” It’s surprising and a bit scary that when I articulate a prayer into words, a parade of opportunities starts marching by me.
Another frequent blogger who teaches me a lot is our own Worship Design Pastor Tim Price. In a recent blog Tim quoted 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” Tim is great at encouraging and building people up through his work with us and Harvest Ministries.
Tim’s father, Senior Pastor Dennis Price, shared with me his written story of when his childhood home burned. He organized it into sections that he learned life lessons from. I look forward to taking his section titles (things like Materialism, Generosity, and Restarting) and applying them to my own life stories in future projects.
I thank God daily for my many opportunities to learn and grow!
