RUBY MAGAZINE
Courtney Winkler was inspired to begin this new online magazine last fall! Courtney has answered some questions about why this magazine is now in existence.
1. What is RUBY Magazine?
RUBY is a reader-generated magazine ministry of Troy UMC whose goal is to connect women (and men) through Him.
2. How did RUBY Magazine come about?
RUBY evolved from the 2011 Troy UMC Women's Retreat at Lake Williamson. The Journey from Christ Church in Fairview Heights, IL, presented at the retreat and shared inspirational anecdotes and information with us including their magazine, Between the Lines. Since I love to read, I dove into this magazine as soon as I arrived home. After reading it, I thought a reader-generated magazine at Troy UMC would be a great way to further connect women. Having met women at the retreat I may never have met, I wanted to make further connections and wanted others to share these connections as well. In addition, one of Pastor Dennis' sermons included the idea about a church making everyone feel welcome, needed, and included as if he/she matters. So, I thought RUBY might be a means of facilitating this.
3. What kinds of topics does RUBY cover?
Inspirational, healing, triumphant . . . whatever the readers contribute and wish to read. A goal of RUBY's is for every woman from every service, ministry, and participation at Troy UMC to be interviewed. In addition, book reviews, Women's Ministry updates, favorite recipes and the stories which may accompany them, music reviews, Bible quotations, Bible trivia contests, and prayer to name a few.
